It’s one set of M Contours away from being what I always wanted my M3 to be.

Silver over black sedan with a manual and no eurorice!
Must. Resist. Urge.

Shes a bit of a high miler though

Yeah, it is. Even still, it’s been better taken care of than my 168k mile example was.
Not that that’s saying much, at all.

Well regardless of care you have rust and the crap cooling system to deal with haha.

I like the DS’s over Contours TBH. I do hope they meant VANOS not rebuilt vamps. Hahaha.
But....just do it. Wait for the S52 to die and drop a S54 in it.

Bit more miles than id like on a german. But then again id never own a german car haha. Looks clean though

But E36s don’t rust, dontchaknow. /s
Even a 50,000 mile E36 is gonna have a shit cooling system! It’s the BMW staple of BMW-ness.

DS’s aren’t terrible, but fuck did cleaning between the spokes suck major ass before I got my Contours.
I think autocorrect got the best of them in a couple places in the ad. The vehicle information on the side say “1997 now M3" I can see VANOS becoming vamps.

I’ve come to learn it’s not the miles that matter, it’s how it was taken care of in those miles. My brother’s 163k mile Grand Am is insanely better taken care of than my cousin’s 99k mile Focus.
I told myself I wouldn’t own another, we see how that’s going.

yea i just dont really like german cars. probably because ive helped work on an audi that is always breaking
![]() 09/04/2016 at 14:09 |

Yeah, I’d never touch an Audi. I wouldn’t even touch newer BMWs with their engine shoved halfway under the cowl. Older BMWs aren’t terrible though.

Haha that guy. I may have been childish and annoyed him for a bit. Then dismissed him.
Haha yeah, although to be fair mine has been okay so far. It is only a 1.6 4cyl though so not too much required to keep it cool compared to the m3s.

I think I’ve dealt with him before under another burner account. Piece of trash.
Mine overheated one time and that was because my secondary fan that sits in front of the radiator had died and I had sat idling for a long time so the mechanical one couldn’t keep up. Even wringing it out through back roads for hours and end it didn’t miss a beat.

Yeah mine got a thrashing when me, 4muddyfeet and schaefft went out on a bit of a road trip the other week. Needles stayed exactly where it should the entire time.

If you don’t stop looking at imports, GM is going to send Bob Lutz over there to have a talk with you.

The spokes suck, for sure.
Yeah, my buddy texted me about rebuilding his “vamps” with a Beisan kit. Hahaha

Ahh, but you misunderstand. You’re not supposed to own Audis, per se. You’re supposed to just...have them for a little while. When your time is up (usually marked by the sound of a disintegrating timing chain tensioner), it’s time to craigslist the one you’ve got and have another! Start the cycle again in about six months to a year.

This can all be remedied by sending my a ATS-V. No need to look at imports after that.

I've yet to become a member of the Audi Foster Home Program.

My friend’s parents both own higher mileage Audis without any major problems. I think Audis just like being in the country they were made in.

Needs more Vaders

I totally want Vaders in a sedan.

They really aren’t any more supportive than the comfort seats but they look amazing, although the prices they’re commanding for a decent set is absurd.

I’ve never heard a European person complaining about how unreliable his/her Audi is.
It’s the cars people maintain like Toyotas, or modify heavily that are the unreliable ones. You have to actually change the oil, and pay attention to manufacturer schedules.
![]() 09/11/2016 at 03:20 |

This. I’ve been in three Audis with over 100k miles each on them and their interiors all still felt great (except for the leather steering wheels) and their engines still performed like new (all three were TDIs).
Not only do people tend to let their oil get changed regularly but also head straight to the dealership when something seems strange about their cars.

I’ve owned two Audis with over 100,000 miles and both of them were extremely solid and performed just like new cars. Not to mention that both of them were extraordinarily reliable and I never had anything major go wrong with either of them.
My 1997 A4 had nothing go wrong with for it’s entire life with me and the previous owners. 140,000 trouble free miles. That’s something to live up to.
Not to mention that most of the people who while about the reliability of Audis have never actually owned one.

I always cringe when I see people bitch and whine about German cars, especially on the fp. In some cases rightfully so, but it seems that some people expect Toyota reliability from a 15 year old turbo V6 luxury car.
![]() 09/11/2016 at 13:07 |
|
Yup, and they don’t get that it’s just not gonna happen. A 2001 Audi A6 with a twin turbo V6 isn’t going to be as reliable as a 2001 Avalon. But no fucking shit.
![]() 09/11/2016 at 13:15 |

Repair bills, parts availability and cost will of course cost you as much as with a Toyota. Duh. Both are cars after all.
..so some think.
![]() 09/11/2016 at 13:18 |
|
Exactly.
They key to maintaining German cars is that you actually have to do it .
They weren’t built for people that don’t take care of their cars, they’re built for people that have actual passion for having a well maintained and usable car. If you can’t afford one, then don’t buy one. But if you’re not generally OK with refreshing wear items, then don’t buy one.
And it’s usually the wear items that get you.
